Quick & Easy Shisha Instructions

Introduced by Jerry Zarbaugh in 1976

If you wish to try this method and have not purchased the plastic rings from us already, rush off to your local variety, fabric, or needlework store and purchase the required njmber and size of plastic rings in the notions section. Make certain the rings will cover the outside edges of the mirrors you will be using. (Example: cabone Rings by Boye)

Before working with the mirrors, cover each plastic ring with a button hole stitch in your choice of thread type and color. (#5 or #8 perle cotton is good) Knot the thread to the ring, leaving a thread tail abut 1 inch long. As you buttonhole around the ring, cover this short thread tail with your buttonhole stitches. (If you wish, as an alternative, you can use a single crochet, or half-hitch in place of the buttonhole stitch.) Be sure the ridge formed by the stitch used is on the OUTSIDE of the ring.

Do not cut the remaining thread tail after you cover the ring. Place the covered ring on your fabric where youwish to place a mirror. Thread the tail thread and take it to the back of the fabric and knot it securing the covered ring to the fabric. Select a matching color of fine thread like a single ply of six-strang embroidery floss or sewing thread. Attach the covered ring to the fabric by stitching a running stitch from the back of the fabric and catching the threads covering the ring. When you have the ring almost half stitch into place, slide the Shisha Mirror under the ring-shiny side up. Continue attaching the ring to the fabric with your running stitches. End the thread by returning it to the back of the fabric and knotting it.

You can further embellish your work with your choice of decorative stitches around each mirror. Consider using any of the stitches from various embroidery books.

The advantages of this type of mounting are:
